Doris Included in Ireland Squad While Joe McCarthy Omitted
Returning manager Andy Farrell has included skipper Caelan Doris in his Ireland team for the fall internationals, however lock McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, who has not played since undergoing a shoulder operation in the start of May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear whether he will be fit to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.
Lock Joe McCarthy, on the other hand, was not considered after failing to recover from the foot issue he sustained during the opening British and Irish Lions Test against Australia in July.
Ulster forward Izuchukwu and Munster winger Nash are not included due to fitness concerns, and number 15 Keenan had already been ruled out after undergoing hip surgery following the summer tour.
Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole new member in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities states new Munster pair Edwin Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped western province winger Shayne Bolton will head to Chicago as "reserves".
After facing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their 2016 encounter, the team host Japan, the Wallabies and world champions South Africa in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and it's a chance for the veteran players and for those who made their debuts on the recent tour to Georgia and Portugal," said Farrell, back to Ireland duty after taking a sabbatical to lead the Lions tour to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will once again compete for the starting number 10 spot. The number 10 jersey is still up for grabs, with Prendergast and Crowley poised to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at Croke Park.
Ciaran Frawley is the third number 10 chosen as Farrell opting against selecting the province's Harry Byrne.
At number 9, Farrell has selected British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer Test victories over the Lelos and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a return for the western province's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.
Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an veteran cohort of midfield options. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, but the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at full-back.
Outside backs Lowe, Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are named. O'Brien shone on his first Ireland outings during the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the only new name in the Ireland forwards. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's three league games this season and played in Ireland A's loss by England in Bristol previously.
