Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Attack Dies

A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The victim, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, charged over the attack.

He was previously accused of attempted murder but following the victim's passing charges were upgraded to include murder.

Police Response

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.

Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, athletic shoes and rucksack.

Attack Site Details

The knife attack occurred near Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point of New Street railway station.

Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her shift around 10 PM Friday night.

She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", adding that some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.

"A lot of my colleagues take public transport, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, 25, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.

"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he stated.

"She lacks transportation employed at major concert locations... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
